5 Tips for Properly Storing Clothes
1. CLEAN YOUR CLOTHES
Depending on the item, wash or dry clean your clothes before storing them. Never store clothes that are soiled or have an odor. After storing them for a long period, it may be difficult or impossible to get them back to their prior condition if they were stored while dirty. Be sure your clothes are fully dry before packing them away to help prevent mildew and odor build-up.
2. USE CLEAR PLASTIC BINS
Clear plastic bins can be ideal for storing clothes (unless they will be exposed to sunlight). They come in a variety of large sizes, are easy to label, and allow you to see what is inside the bin before opening it.
3. CHOOSE A DRY, SAFE ENVIRONMENT
You don't want to store your clothing in a damp or unsafe environment. Choose an area that is dry and secure. If your home or apartment has limited space, renting a small climate-controlled storage unit may be a good option.
4. CONTROL ODORS
Using baking soda or dryer sheets may help to keep your stored clothing smelling fresh until you are ready to remove them for wear.
5. LABEL & ORGANIZE
Be sure to use removable or reusable labels so that you can easily find what you are looking for. Organizing your clothes by season and type will also make things much easier to find when you need them. You may want to store special items separately and put them in an easily accessible spot.
